Challenge

There's not enough time to finish work.

"My manager tells me not to work such long hours and to go home earlier. But with the amount of work and number of people in the team, I can't. I also don't know what to do first."

Solution

Create a schedule to get an overview of your work and how much time each task will take.

Every morning, schedule tasks in your calendar so you understand how much time things will take, and how much you can do in one day.

Managers can help team members leave for home on time by giving them specific strategies to schedule tasks realistically.

When scheduling, be as specific as possible. Consider what the priorities are and how long a task will take.

By doing this, you'll be able determine when you're trying to do too much in one day.

Data

Of those who trialed using a digital calendar to set a time to go home, the number of people who were concerned they wouldn't finish work on time dropped by more than 30% after the trial.

Advice

Share your schedule with your team.

By seeing everyone's schedule, team members can understand the priorities, remove unnecessary tasks and meetings, and share information more easily. Everyone can work more efficiently.

You can also consider other people's schedule when scheduling tasks or meetings, for example not arranging meetings when a colleague's schedule is full or they are on holidays.
